The music business is a complicated one, and you need to be prepared.  This session will help you understand the structure of the music industry, copyright, recording contracts, collection societies and more.</p>
<p>This seminar isn’t about discussing the future of the music industry or finding the ‘next big thing’. It’s about learning practical skills and knowledge to give you the best chance of success. Although focussing on the needs of new labels and DIY musicians, it will be useful to artist managers and anyone who would like an insight into the recording industry. The session will take place in Studio 2,<br />
part of the famous Parr Street Studios, Liverpool.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>We’ve created a special one-day package with new, ambitious bands from the Liverpool area in mind. In conjunction with record producer Russell Cottier and Catalyst Studios in St Helens, the day starts with five hours of recording, followed by a photo shoot, a session on surviving in the music industry, and your tracks mixed before you leave the studio. Bands will also get a professionally designed logo AND their lead track set to a video filmed during the day. All the things a band needs to get taken seriously. The first available date is Thursday 10<sup>th</sup> May.</p>
<p>The day will run as follows:</p>
<p>10 am – Recording session with producer Russell Cottier (<a href="http://www.russellcottier.com">www.russellcottier.com</a>). Bands will have the chance to discuss plans for the session with Russell in advance. Part of this session will also be filmed for use in the video.</p>
<p>3 pm – Photo shoot with Liverpool-based photographer Grethe Borsum (<a href="http://www.gretavisions.co.uk">www.gretavisions.co.uk</a>). Bands will be able to pick two images from the session which will be professionally edited and emailed to them within 72 hours.</p>
<p>4 pm – Info session from Rob Eakins (Director of Ultimate Fake  Records and Cavern Records) on surviving in the music industry. Topics will include getting your music on iTunes and strategies for promoting your band. Bands will be able to send their questions to Rob before the session.</p>
<p>5 pm – Review the mixes with Russell, and get a copy to take home.</p>
<p>6 pm – End.</p>
<p>Bands will then be contacted by Marc at Thirds Design to discuss their logo (<a href="http://www.thirdsdesign.org">www.thirdsdesign.org</a>). We aim to have your logo and promo video completed and delivered to you within 7 working days after filming.</p>
<p><strong>Total cost: £615</strong></p>
<p>Venue: Catalyst Studios, Charles Street, St Helens.</p>
