We’ll soon be running workshops in the Liverpool and wider Merseyside area for people who want to learn more about starting their own record label. These workshops will be presented by an accredited business adviser experienced in the music industry, and will cover the essential information you need, including what to look out for in a contract, income streams, copyright issues and collection societies. Francis McEntegart on Radio Merseyside

Our good friend Francis McEntegart from music industry specialists McEntegart Legal was featured on Radio Merseyside this evening. Interviewed by Dave Monks, Francis discussed some of the most important legal considerations when forming a band and deciding on band names. He also gave tips on handling your manager and protecting the copyright in your songs. He’ll be appearing again on the 24th July, so tune in to learn more about music industry law.

Ultimate Fake represented on the MIBI Panel

Our very own Rob Eakins was invited to sit on the panel for the final part of the Make It Break It Awards’ (MIBI) four day Industry Academy 2010, which was held at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA). Joined by music industry experts including Mike Walsh from Xfm and legendary producer Steve Levine, the panel answered questions posed by the competition winners on topics such as the role of managers and whether bands really need a major record deal in order to be successful. Some of the advice given by the panel will be discussed on our Business Talk page very soon. And what did the panel all agree was the most essential element for success in the music industry? Hard work of course!

Kaya on tour in France

Assuming Kaya survives today’s cognac distillery tour, her proper French tour will begin tomorrow. Kaya and the band will be playing three gigs in the Cognac area before travelling up to Le Havre to perform at the Fete de la Musique on the 21st June. Fans of Liverpool FC might have been surprised to hear tracks from Kaya’s album ‘Balloon in a Cactus Field’ played during the half time interval at recent home matches. It’s a privilege for Kaya, who says: “I was honoured and excited that my music was played in front of so many people, and that my family could hear it back home.” We’re delighted to hear that George Sephton, the voice of Anfield, loves Kaya’s album, and we appreciate his support.

Kaya @ Liverpool Sound City 2009

Kaya will be playing at the Liverpool Sound City 2009 Festival on Saturday 23rd May at the rather luxurious Studio 2 in Parr Street, Liverpool, L1 4JN. It will be a full-band performance, supporting Foy Vance. Kaya will be on at about 8pm.
